For a college audition I would like to play Moszkowski etude #9 Dm op.
72. This set of etudes were published in 1903, however they lack
complex harmony of later compositions of the twentieth century. A few
schools say to play a post-1900 work, which the etude is. Although
this etude is in a more late-Romantic style, would it matter to the
schools that say a post-1900 work? Are the etudes at all in the
twentieth century style?
Also, I am looking at some schools like USC Thornton. Would schools of
this caliber which are also universities consider grades equally to
music in admission decisions? Or is the focus mostly on music? Thanks
so much for any answers!
